Abstract: Nitric oxide (NO) is involved in the pathological process of inflammatory pain and plays a critical role in the development and maintenance of hyperalgesia. The study of the effect and mechanism of nitric oxide can help to elucidate physiology of inflammatory pain and discover the clinical therapy. Several lines of evidence have been accumulated to suggest that nitric oxide produce inflammatory pain via NO/cGMP pathway, expression of immediate early genes, and interacting with other neurotransmitter. Three isoforms of NOS are found and facilitate the induction of pain. They exert the different effects on the development and maintenance of inflammatory pain.
