Abstract: Abstract: Neural cell adhesion molecules(NCAMs) are cell surface glycoproteins that appear to mediate cell-cell, cell-extracellular matrix adhesion. NCAMs, largely attached with polysialic acid(PSA), exist in three major different polypeptide forms with apparent molecular weight 180, 140, 120kD. In nervous system, NCAM is expressed in a defined temporal and spatial pattern. PSA-NCAM plays an important role in the formation of neural plasticity by regulating AMPA receptor formation, mainly by regulating the expression of the protein kinase and the intracellular Ca2+ level.
