Abstract:

Skeletal muscle, which accounts for 40% of body weight, is a vital component of the human locomotor system. Skeletal muscle damage can significantly impact people’s overall quality of life. Current research has found that the normal physiological function of skeletal muscle is significantly impacted by oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial disorders, and calcium ion imbalance. Therefore, it is crucial to search for medications that promote skeletal muscle regeneration and repair, as well as maintain muscle function. Cordycepin is the primary active compound in Cordyceps militaris, which was reported to show significant potential in promoting skeletal muscle
function. Therefore, cordycepin may play an important role in the recovery of skeletal muscle injury. This paper provides a review of the role of cordycepin in the repair of skeletal muscle injury, including notable antiinflammatory effects, antioxidant activities, and regulation of mitochondrial function and so on. It would provide ideas and theoretical support for further studying and developing cordycepin-based food, healthcare products or  drugs for skeletal muscle injury treatment.
