Abstract: Abstract: Phospholipase C (PLC) is a class of important hydrolytic enzymes. Based on the specificity of substrates, PLC is mainly categorized into two groups: PI-PLC (phosphoinositide-specific PLC) and NPC (non-specific PLC). The important roles of PLCs and their products in mediating signal transduction in plant cells are indispensable. Other than in animal cells, both IP6 (inositol hexaphosphate) and PA (phosphatidic acid) are considered as the key components of the phospholipid-based signaling in plants. In this article, we summarize the structures of PLC proteins and the classification of PLC family members. We also highlight the functions of plant PLCs and discuss the prospect underlying the molecular mechanisms involved in plant development.
