Abstract: Abstract: Stem cell research will contribute to a revolution in terms of how we treat cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, cancer, diabetes, and so far, so this project is called another "hope project" for the human diseases. But little is known about the mechanism that stem cells take part in the process of tissue regeneration, and the major possible mechanism should be trans-differetiation of stem cell and cell fusion. Cell-cell fusion is fundamental to the development and physiology of multicellular organisms, abnormalities of cell-cell fusion might result in certain human diseases. For example, defects in sperm-ovum fusion represent a major cause of infertility. Certain muscle diseases, such as centronuclear myopathy and myotonic dystrophy, characterized by minute myofibers, may be partly due to defects in myoblast fusion. Furthermore, defects of placental trophoblast fusion lead to pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, and defects in osteoclast fusion can cause bone abnormalities such as osteopetrosis. We reviewed the advance in understanding how stem cells act on tissue regeneration and repairation, summed up the mechanism of stem cell fusion.
