Abstract: In the past several decades, various spatial cells, including place cells, grid cells, head direction cells, and boundary cells have been discovered, constituting a positioning system in the brains that allows for spatial recognition and navigation. Prof. John O'Keefe, May-Britt Moser and Edvard I. Moser share the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries of place cells and grid cells.
