Abstract: Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is a ubiquitous and highly conserved protein in eukaryotes, containing a unique amino acid: hypusine. Hypusine comes from lysine residue by post-translation modification and this process is closely related to the polyamine metabolism. Recent studies found that eIF5A and polyamine are closely related to tumorigenesis and development. It is expected to become a new target for tumor therapy. This paper briefly reviews the relationship between eIF5A, polyamine metabolism and tumor.
